Do you like the way HBK left WWE and do you miss him?
I think the way Shawn went out was a little more fitting to his lifestyle now. Ric Flair will be forever insecure about his legacy, and in order for him to feel comfortable retiring, he needed you to know it was coming. He needed the last few months (at the time) of his career to be the Ric Flair Retirement Tour. And even with the hype and the build and the amazing send-off, he couldn't settle, and now he's slumming in Florida for a paycheck. Shawn, on the other hand, decided to forgo the pageantry of a last hurrah that fans could see from a mile away in favor of telling a story. Working a story with the best friend's betrayal is gimmicky and unnecessary. 'Taker and Shawn was simply the two longest tenured guys going out and giving it what they had. Didn't need to be anything more. By not hyping his decision to retire, he made the thought that he might break the streak that much more plausible, and that stays relevant to the character and the need for a build-up. His decision to go out alone the night after and talk directly to the fans was much more personal and very real in contrast to Flair's who's-who of well-wishers. By doing this, Shawn reminded us that we were as valuable to him as he was to us, and that we weren't just something he used to build his legacy and pay his bills. Shawn's finale was very genuine and very real, and I personally think it was perfect. And of course he's missed. He was easily the best the business has to offer, again, even more so than Flair.
